About Shaoxing University
The University is located on the southwest side of Shaoxing city and has managed to grow in popularity and strength over the last decade. The University was founded in 1909 as the Shankuai Primary Normal School. The great modern Chinese author Lu Xun (1881-1936) is a native of Shaoxing. He was the school’s education inspector. In 1996, Shaoxing University was established following the merger of several higher education institutions, including Shaoxing Teachers College and Shaoxing Advanced Professional College.

The Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Shaoxing University, founded by an esteemed Canadian Academy of Engineering academician and an IEEE Fellow, stands at the vanguard of information science and technology. Committed to pioneering cross-disciplinary applications on a global scale. The Institute strives for groundbreaking research and innovative achievements. It aims to bolster capabilities in scientific and technological innovation, nurture talent, and address the nation’s and the local community’s pressing needs in artificial intelligence. Additionally, it seeks to elevate the capacity-building and standing of information disciplines such as computer science and technology while fostering a hub for education, technological innovation, and talent development in AI.
With a dynamic team of over 20 researchers, including six proficient professors and seven international experts, the Institute of AI focuses on diverse research interests. These encompass geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI), spatial data computing, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), digital twins, digital infrastructure, Earth Observation Systems, GIS, intelligent transportation, computer vision, smart city development, intelligent medical image processing, and robust network security. Moreover, their applications extend to critical domains such as disaster management, natural hazard mitigation, agriculture and hydrology, and civil engineering. The Institute has achieved a significant milestone by creating the world’s first intelligent system for generating high-definition (HD) cell-vector image maps. Additionally, it takes pride in establishing China’s premier Baidu Cloud AI College within university campuses.
